πŸ“šβœ¨ A day of learning, creativity, and inspiration at the National Library Service Headquarters!

We were delighted to welcome students from St. Giles Primary School for an engaging and educational visit. The students participated in interactive puppetry and storytelling sessions that brought stories to life while encouraging imagination and a love of reading. πŸŽπŸ“–

During their visit, the students also toured our Reference Department, where they learned more about the valuable resources and services available at the National Library Service.

A highlight of the tour was viewing our Road to 60: Women exhibition, which celebrates 60 Barbadian women whose significant contributions have helped shape our society into what it is today. The display offered students an opportunity to learn about the remarkable achievements and lasting legacies of these inspiring women. πŸŒŸπŸ‡§πŸ‡§

Thank you to the students, teachers, and staff of St. Giles Primary School for spending the day with us. We hope the experience sparked curiosity, inspired learning, and encouraged a deeper appreciation for Barbados' rich history and the power of storytelling.

πŸšΆπŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ“š Stories in the Streets Brings Bridgetown's History to Life! πŸ‡§πŸ‡§βœ¨

On June 20, the National Library Service welcomed 32 children and 28 adults on an unforgettable journey through the streets of Historic Bridgetown during our Stories in the Streets walking tour.

Led by historian Claudette Levi-Farnum, participants explored some of Bridgetown's most significant landmarks while experiencing history through engaging storytelling, music, and dramatic re-enactments.

πŸ“ At Golden Square Freedom Park, historian Dr. Frederick Alleyne captivated the audience with a powerful re-enactment of Clement Payne's iconic speech, "Educate, Agitate but Don't Violate." Participants were also treated to performances by cultural icon Mighty Gabby, including his song "What You Gonna Do 'Bout Clement Payne?"

πŸ“ At Independence Square, Antoine Williams brought Errol Barrow's vision of independence to life, as participants proudly waved placards and joined in chants celebrating Barbados' journey to nationhood. Mighty Gabby added to the experience with his original song, "Let's Celebrate Our Independence."

πŸ“ At Heroes Square, attendees witnessed a moving re-enactment depicting the experiences of enslaved Africans, followed by Senator John King's rendition of the beloved song "Slavery Done."

πŸ“ The tour continued to Palmetto Square, where fascinating historical insights were shared before the group journeyed through Bridgetown's historic alleys and byways, concluding at Queen's Park.

✨ Through history, music, and community engagement, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the stories, struggles, and triumphs that shaped our nation.
