🖤💛❤️ Celebrating 50 Years of Deadly! 🖤💛❤️
This NAIDOC Week, we are proud to stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as we celebrate 50 years of strength, culture, and achievements. For our team, supporting reconciliation is about showing up and getting active! 🌟
Here is how our branches are celebrating local culture and going "ALL IN" for reconciliation:
🎪 Join Us This Weekend: This Saturday, July 11th, we’ll be hosting a display at the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation NAIDOC Family Fun Day! Come down to George Clayton Park (Bandstand Park) in Manly between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. We'll be handing out our special Wynnum Manly Tokens of Appreciation, plenty of giveaways, and (fingers crossed!) handing out free popcorn. Come say hi!
🎨 Local Art, Proudly Worn: Every Friday and at community events, we wear community shirts featuring the artwork "Gunbing Gunbing" (Two Wobbegongs) by local Indigenous artist Ayla Costello. This piece beautifully depicts the connection between land, sea, and people. At its center is Wynnum, while the Wobbegong sharks represent a supportive, thriving community. We also proudly sponsored the WolvesFC 2026 NAIDOC Week Jersey, featuring Ayla's incredible original designs!
⛵ On Country: We teamed up to support the incredible Quandamooka Festival on Minjerribah, celebrating the Ngugi, Noonuccal, and Goenpul cultures—the very same groups beautifully represented in the community circles of Ayla's artwork.
🤝 Reconciliation in Action: Our very own Karisa recently represented us in Tarntanya (Adelaide) on Kaurna Land for the launch of Bendigo Bank’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Reflecting on her deeply moving trip, Karisa shared:
"When we unite with a shared commitment, we have the power to create genuine, positive change together."
This NAIDOC Week, we encourage everyone to learn, attend local events, and celebrate the incredible history and future of First Nations peoples. They are, and always will be, "Still Deadly. Always."

What does it mean to go 'All In' for positive change? For our wonderful team member Karisa, it meant representing our branch at a truly historic event for our Bank. 🖤💛❤️
Many of you know Karisa’s welcoming smile. She started with us as our very first Indigenous trainee and, after a break to pursue other ventures and become a mum, we were absolutely thrilled when she returned to us as a permanent, much-loved part of our Community Bank family!
Karisa recently travelled to Tarntanya (Adelaide) on Kaurna Land for the launch of Bendigo Bank’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). It was a deeply meaningful and emotional few days where she:
🎨 Painted a collaborative silk art piece that will hang in the Adelaide head office.
đź’¬ Shared powerful, honest yarns with Elder in Residence, Uncle Billy, about First Nations realities.
🥞 Attended the National Reconciliation Breakfast alongside 3,000 people, featuring Eddie Betts and Casey Donovan.
Reflecting on the experience, Karisa shared:
“It was truly emotional, bringing some difficult truths to light. Yet, the bonds I forged give me so much hope. They prove that when we unite with a shared commitment, we have the power to create genuine, positive change together.”
With National Reconciliation Week recently calling on us all to be "ALL IN", Karisa’s journey is a beautiful reminder of what active participation looks like.
We are so incredibly proud of her representing our local team with such strength and leadership!
