Dr. Susannah Hallal, Guardian Trust Early Career Research Fellow at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, is working to develop a simple blood or urine test that could help doctors monitor glioblastoma more accurately.

During the first year of her five-year fellowship, Dr. Hallal and her team successfully collected and processed hundreds of blood and urine samples from people living with brain cancer. They have also isolated and validated tiny tumour-derived particles that may provide important clues about how a tumour is responding to treatment or changing over time.

This research aims to identify molecular “fingerprints” that could one day help detect tumour recurrence earlier, monitor treatment response more accurately and support more personalised care.

By reducing reliance on invasive procedures and providing new ways to track tumour progression, this work has the potential to improve treatment decision-making and clinical trial access for people living with glioblastoma.
