CASE STUDY | Kardinia Park Redevelopment by Populous.

Kardinia Park is run by the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust (Trust) and is a statutory authority established under the Kardinia Park Stadium Act, 2016.

The Trust, governed by a board of seven Trustees, has been established to administer, promote and manage the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Land more commonly known as GMHBA Stadium.

The Kardinia Park Precinct that surrounds the 36,000-crowd capacity stadium is an icon of Geelong and is steeped in history. The Stadium’s iconic light towers it is visibly present no matter which direction you enter the city from.

The stadium is a rare asset for a regional city; a source of pride for the community and an enabler for major events once reserved for capital cities to take place in Geelong with sizeable economic benefits.

Home to the AFL Geelong Cats, the redevelopment of the 5th stage has seen the Victorian State Government commit to $142m.

The project will secure the venue’s status as Australia’s best regional stadium and complete the ground’s transformation.

The project includes:
→ A new grandstand at the northern end of the stadium, increasing the overall capacity to over 40,000,
→ A new indoor cricket hub to be located between the stadium and the railway line,
→ A new entry plaza to be established adjacent to Moorabool Street and the north of the stadium,
→ New professional and community sports change rooms and facilities, and
→ A sports museum.

Whether it be an AFL match, T20 cricket or one of the many community events held at the stadium, patrons will continue to enjoy world-class facilities year-round. The ultimate Third Place for the community at large.
