This Australian-delivered 1971 Datsun 240Z has enjoyed a remarkable competition career spanning more than 35 years in Victorian and national historic motorsport, primarily with the Marque Sports Car Association (MSCA) in Category 2 / Group 2B.

First logbooked for racing in February 1991 to Antoni Gecsek, the car began life as his road and weekend track car in the late 1980s. Gecsek competed in early club sprints and the inaugural Z Car Nationals before selling it in 1993 (to help fund a house deposit). It returned to his ownership in October 2019 after appearing at auction, reuniting him with a car that still evokes strong emotion.

Under Don McKay (1993–2000), the 240Z became a familiar and competitive sight on Australian circuits. McKay campaigned it extensively at Phillip Island, Winton, Sandown, Calder, Eastern Creek and elsewhere. In 1995 it ran the Targa Tasmania in white livery, often leading fellow 240Zs in the fiercely contested Marque Sports field of the 1990s, when Datsun Z-cars were a dominant force.

Darryl Duff (“the fastest butcher in Brighton” and former VHRR president) owned and raced the car from 2000 until his passing. It continued its active historic career through the 2000s and 2010s across hillclimbs (Rob Roy, Mt Leura, Mt Tarrengower), sprints and circuit events.

The car has proven reliable and durable throughout its long racing life.

Purchased by our chief engineer DJ from Antoni Gecsek, this much-loved 240Z will continue on racing in our stable in DJ’s capable hands!!

A genuine piece of Victorian motorsport history, we are proud to be the next custodians and continue this Datsun’s history into the future.
