Whether you want to admit it or not, emotions are a NORMAL part of decision-making, even in business.
And yes, even in the most cerebral of industries.
The problem lies in when leaders make big decisions, those that impact others beyond just themselves, from emotions that have nothing to do with the current scenario the decision is being made from, OR from emotions that the person throwing these decisions around isn’t even aware of possessing.
It’s very human and natural to have emotions (again, cannot stress this enough!) But when you have power, influence, and authority that can make or break a system (like your business and culture), it is your responsibility to at LEAST practice self-awareness so you are cognisant of your emotions - not just for your own good, but literally for the good of your organisation.
My new book ‘Leaders Who Thrive - A Mindful Antidote to Disconnected Teams’ comes out in September! It’s available now to add to your wish list ahead of pre-orders opening.

Your organisation is already shaping how people experience work, whether you intend it or not.
It goes beyond just the words on the wall or repeated at every meeting.
It goes beyond a hope and a prayer.
And while it makes sense that a wellbeing strategy isn't always at the top of your list if you're busy running the business in other ways and YET... isn't that why you would get that support in every other area?
An intentional wellbeing strategy doesn't mean wrapping people in cotton wool or lowering expectations.
It's about designing a workplace where high performance and human wellbeing support each other rather than compete with each other. That's where I believe the most sustainable organisational performance comes from.
So here's my question for you on this fine Monday morning:
If someone asked to see your organisation's wellbeing strategy... Would you hand them a document? Or would you invite them to spend a week experiencing your workplace? 👀
Because I suspect the second answer would tell them far more.
