🗣️PHONICS🗣️

1/2A and 1/2B split into their Grade 1 and Grade 2 groups each morning for their cohort phonics program, making sure everyone is learning at the right level and being challenged.
Miss Christy has been really pleased with the effort from the Grade 2 students as they build their skills in encoding and decoding words.
Lately, they have been working on words that end in -ous and -ion and have shown great curiosity along the way.

Well done, Grade 2s, for your effort in phonics each day and your ability to apply your new learning in other areas such as writing and spelling mastery. Keep it up!✨

🧪🥼STEM🥼🧪

Our Junior School students have been working on the Physical Science outcomes in STEM this term, which focus on how things move.
Foundation students have explored how the shape of objects impact their movement (eg sliding vs rolling) and the influence of the materials objects are made from (eg which balls bounce the highest.
Year 1 and 2 students focused on the forces of push and pull. They experimented with ways to make a moving object go faster or slower and how to change its direction.

➕➖🇦🇺NUMBERS, CULTURE, HISTORY🇦🇺➖➕

Students in 3/4B have been actively involved in a range of engaging learning experiences this term. During Numeracy, they have strengthened their understanding of addition and subtraction methods while applying these skills to solve meaningful problems. In Literacy, the class has been investigating rich vocabulary and descriptive language to enhance both their reading and written work. Through Inquiry, students have explored Australia's significant days, national symbols, and flags, gaining a deeper appreciation of how these contribute to our country's heritage, cultural diversity and shared sense of identity.

⚫️💛🔴NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK🔴💛⚫️

As part of our acknowledgement and celebration of National Reconciliation Week, we were thrilled to welcome Sean Choolburra to our school for a special free incursion.

Born and raised in Townsville, Sean’s ancestors are Gu-Gu-Yalanji, Kalkadoon, Kandju and Bwgcolman peoples from around Townsville and Palm Island. Sean is a charismatic, vibrant and captivating performer who combines humour, storytelling and cultural knowledge to create an engaging experience for students.

Through dance, stories, painting, fire creation and didgeridoo playing, students had the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture and traditions in an interactive and meaningful way.
Students engaged in singing, dancing and participating throughout the performance.
