Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is the peak body which regulates the allied health professional group - Accredited Exercise Physiology. Accredited exercise physiologists (AEPs) are 4-year university qualified professionals who play a key role in primary health care because of their knowledge and skills in clinical exercise prescription for the management and prevention of chronic disease and injury.
ESSA has created a short video which showcases some of the projects AEPs are engaged in with Medicare Locals and it also provides some innovative ideas for interprofessional care and future work (e.g. AEPs are increasingly being utilised in the mental health and aged care sectors).
