iolence and are able to fully exercise their rights, choices and responsibilities. We facilitate the safety and overall well-being of Women of Colour and children through strategic prevention, early intervention and crisis supports to eliminate oppression and gender-based violence. Wholly run and led by migrant and refugee women from Asian, African and Middle Eastern backgrounds, Shakti is dedicated to promoting and protecting the human rights of both women and children and advocating social change within families and communities. Shakti Australia has its origins in UK through Shakti Aid and subsequently in New Zealand where it has been providing services for and by Women of Colour for over 25 years. In New Zealand Shakti runs a 24-hour national crisis line in NZ, has 5 culturally specialist safe-houses and 12 drop-in centres across the country. In Australia, we have offices and services in Victoria operated by Shakti Ethnic Women’s Support Group Inc. (Melbourne) and in NSW operated by Shakti Ethnic Women’s Support Group Inc.
