Well. I had better introduce myself.

My name is Deb & been a Physiothrapist for 13 years. I took up Salsa many years ago when a friend asked me to accompany him to the Night Cat for some lessons (you know, the one with the live band in Sunday nights). I was one of a hundred beginners lined up in rows at the beginning of the night. I wish I could say I absolutely loved it but I only stuck around for 6 months until life took over.

Life took me to London where I picked it up again a few years later. This is where I really feel in love with the music. The complexity & variety of instruments in a salsa band makes it such a lush experience for the ears. The music then makes the movement & the dance so much more rich.

My love of the dance stage grew when I started performing with & in 2013. We traveled all over UK & even got to perform in Istanbul & Berlin!

When I returned to Australia, I trained under with . During this time, I solidified my technique & style. Sharon was an amazing coach & really nurtured my passion & my drive for excellence. In 2018, I joined the Pro Team.

My background as a Physio has given me great insight into the strength & flexibility needs of a dancer's body & how dancers recover from injury.

Today, I teach with . I'll be helping new dancers to the Latin scene form good habits in their early days & have loads of fun while learning!
DM me to ask me any questions!

This was me after my first proper performance with the Pro Team, costume and all!

I was so proud of holding my own (but also knowing I had lots to work on still). I was incredibly nervous, as we waited on the side. We were up early in the set (but not too early). We all worked so hard up to this point in preparation for a big performance.

We didn't end up being able to grace the stage with this routine in Europe. Looking back, even if we knew we wouldn't have performed, I'd like to think I would have worked just as hard.

I found it a challenging routine. From the start, which was a slow & soulful cha cha, to a blindingly fast salsa, later in the piece. It challenged the control of my body within the music as well as my expression of the story within the team.

While I take a forced break from dancing, I'm dreaming of my next challenge.

What are you challenging yourself with during this time?
