+++ JOHN GILMOUR +++
We hope this story that may act as some motivation as we take a range social distancing, self isolation and quarantine measures to combat the current health crisis.
The story is of the late Australian distance running champion John Gilmour. John was a POW in Changi during the Second World War. During his period of capture he spent a great deal of time in physical and mental confinement, losing much of his sight from malnutrition.
He would talk of how during that time as POW all he dreamt of was running barefoot again on the pine needles around what is now Curtin University.
Eventually, John did return home and return to running. He went on to win dozens of world titles and break dozens of word masters records. He also contributed to the formation of a dynasty of West Australian distance runners at Canning Districts Athletics club including the Australian Champion Langford brothers Fred and Jim; David Eltringham, Col Junner and even current international Rochelle Rodgers.
Even into his 90’s John was able to run in confined spaces. As his late wife Alma’s health began to fade, John set up a running track along the 8m length of his back fence with a tree at each end. Each morning he would wake and run 500 laps to get his 8km run in while still being able to hear Alma if she called for help.
When we think of people like John, we realise that we can survive and that on the other side we can once again do great things if we keep our spirit strong.
Take care, think of others, stay healthy

Oh dear!
We’ve heard of “text neck” now we have “tech skull horns”. A very undesirable adaptation.
Remember: hold mobile screens at eye height. Your arms will tell you when it’s time to put it down.
💛
Younger generations are growing horns in the back of their heads Younger generations seem to be developing horns in the back of their skulls due to the extended use of technology like smartphones and tablets.
