The Western Australian Council of the Australian Power Boat Association (WA APBA) formed on the 18th July, 1955; two years after the Australian Power Boat Association issued its policy of State autonomy. The Australian Power Boat Association (APBA) is the recognised national sporting organisation for the sport of power boat racing in Australia and is made up of State Councils. The Western Australi
an State Council of APBA is a nonprofit body whose sole intention is to allow power boat events to prosper in the State of Western Australia and Australia generally, is responsible for administering power boat racing in Western Australia and reports to the national body. It is made up of member clubs with their racing operations based in Western Australia. At its inception, The WA State Council of APBA member clubs were The WA Speed Boat Club and the Bunbury, Lake Narrogin and Lake Moodiarrup Speed Boat Clubs in the State’s South. Over time all clubs except the WASBC disbanded, and many of their former members joined the WA Speed Boat Club. By 1984 the Sterling Go Boat, WA Speed Dinghy, Power Dinghy, Sporting Outboard and Perth Hydro clubs had become affiliated with WA APBA. By 1999 the number of affiliated clubs again reduced to just the WASBC. Currently WA APBA represents one member club, The West Australian Speed Boat Club however membership has and continues to be open to all clubs with an interest in power boat racing in Western Australia.
