My walls are cold grey

relics of the old world,
books, paintings, books,
but somehow still empty.

Holographic fish swim
in a sea of particles,
A transient blue pours
onto the ceiling, an
artificial tranquillity
for my brains short circuit.

ecstatic screen bleeds
terror, horror, dulling
senses to that of android
day dreams. My cat sleeps
by the synthetic fire, curled
up into a half moon.

I swipe to messenger,
no one is replying.
I guess they are all caught up
in the virtual wonderland,
trading secrets behind
programmed walls.

Waiting around all day
universal income my safety
do I read a book, watch a film,
log onto virtual Facebook
and spend my hours socializing
with people I would otherwise not.

muttering “I guess this is the future”
I start weeping uncontrollably.
Goodbye horses, I’m flying
over you comes on my
playlist, as I take a long
draw on my last cigarette.
