Join the Crust Busters Challenge in collaboration with South32!

Through this challenge, South32 is exploring innovative methods to eliminate and/or safely manage the cryolite bath crust that may form in the molten aluminium transfer ladles during the transfer from Reduction cells to the Casthouse furnaces.

Why?
The facilities’ smelter currently faces challenges related to the formation of electrolyte crusts during the transfer of molten aluminium from ladles to Casthouse furnaces. This process, which involves vehicle-mounted ladles, is susceptible to delays that can lead to electrolyte crust formation, impacting productivity and safety.

What’s in it for you?
Hillside Aluminium and South32 via their innovation program, Innovate32, have funding and an established pathway to support selected innovators from this challenge through studies, tests, engineering, field trials, and commercial agreements, where applicable and agreed.
