A heartfelt thank you to all our honoured guests who joined us last night at Nasir Mosque for our Annual Iftar Dinner.

Your presence made the evening a tremendous success, truly making it one of the largest — if not the largest — interfaith Iftar gatherings in Perth, held at one of the largest mosques in our city.

Under the theme “Religion: A Force for Good,” we were inspired by thoughtful reflections from our distinguished speakers including City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett, Rabbi David Freilich, and Fr Michael Twigg of Mazenod College WA - Moments of Grace Mazenod College, each speaking eloquently about the role faith can play in building a better, more compassionate society.

Our Imam, Imam Syed Wadood Janud delivered a powerful keynote reflecting on the rights and dignity of Muslim women, reminding us how both Muslim men and women should emulate the noble example of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a model of faith, righteousness and devotion. He also reflected on the challenging state of our world today and emphasised the importance of gatherings like this — bringing people together in the spirit of love, peace and harmony, which lies at the heart of Islam.

We were also honoured that Ms Sook Yee Lai MLA was able to briefly visit before the program began. Her statement of solidarity and support for religious freedom was read to the audience — and thank you as well for the dates you kindly gifted for the evening.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see people from so many different backgrounds coming together, sharing a meal, enjoying the speeches, the food, and the company of one another.

A very special thank you goes to our incredible volunteers, whose tireless and dedicated efforts made the evening possible. Your service truly embodies the spirit of Ramadan.

Finally, we wish everyone a blessed month ahead.

Ramadan Mubarak to all.

A lovely session of learning and reflection for our future generations.
