8-Bit Recordings began as a label/collective of electronic music producers in Perth in 2000 originally comprising Noistruct, The Last Ninja and Deadcode. Specialising in hardcore techno, noise and industrial but particularly "breakcore". Looking to expand on their interest in this then underground style of hardcore. They organised the first ever breakcore shows in Perth at The Hyde Park Hotel and
later ran the regular night "VOID" at The Rosemount Hotel. It was at "VOID" that they drew the attention of local industrial and goth scenes as well as drum n bass/jungle, experimental noise, glitch and IDM and infamous Perth old school hardcore crew "Hardline Rekordingz". After learning about 8-Bit and VOID through a radio interview on RTRFM. Local drill n bass/IDM producer "Orange Dust" came to VOID to check it out along with close friends and IDM/glitch act "Fragile Nine". After being blown away by the demo CDs that Orange Dust and Fragile Nine (later becoming Modex and then Pselodux) gave them. The three members of 8-Bit invited them to join the collective and expanded future shows to include other styles of electronic music including glitch, IDM, experimental, noise, jungle, drum n bass etc. Over the following 3 years 8-Bit Recordings organised and played shows in Perth with a diverse range of local, Australian and international acts as well as released a few CDs. In 2003 the core members began gravitating to the eastern states for different reasons and by 2005 was relocated to Melbourne. 8-Bit Recordings remained in Melbourne until late 2009, when after some changes, remaining founding member Noistruct revamped it into a more productive record label with Noistruct's "Popmash Is Dead" 12" vinyl released in August 2010 to an enthusiastic response.
8-Bit Recordings relaunched as a bandcamp based label website in May 2014. Re-releasing many back catalogue releases and new releases on the site for pay as you like download. 8-Bit Recordings has recently released a final double vinyl 12" compilation for sale on the site and has one final 12" split between Orange Dust and Noistruct tentatively released in December 2014. This will be the final release for the label under the current management of Noistruct/The Last Ninja/Deadcode. As of January 2015 Noistruct will step down and Deadcode and The Last Ninja will be solely responsible for future releases. https://8-bitrecordings.bandcamp.com/music
