How does the global price of scrap copper impact households and businesses in Western Australia?

As Steve King from Merit Consulting Group explained on 7NEWS Perth, rising copper prices are driving increasingly brazen thefts from construction and demolition sites across the state.

In some cases, thieves are stripping valuable copper from buildings before remediation work can begin, often damaging asbestos pipe-coatings in the process and creating significant safety risks.

It's an issue that extends far beyond the value of the stolen metal, impacting community safety, project timelines and budgets.
