In the past decade there has been a clear increase in the number of sport scientists, coaches, sport psychologists, and nutritionists with PhDs working directly with cyclists at the top level of the sport (e.g. WorldTour, Olympians). This is because, like doctors practicing medicine, it is understood these individuals possess the knowledge, problem solving, and critical thinking skills necessary to advance cyclists towards their maximal performance potential.

However, there is nothing to say that support from experts in performance should be exclusive only to cyclists at the top level of the sport. Any cyclist dedicated to improving their performance should have access to this level of performance professional.
