At 3m tall from nose to gills the Carcharocles megalodon was one the team’s favourite models.

Made for

The Museum worked closely with Swedish palaeontologist Dr Mikael Siversson, and digital Paleo sculptor to ensure accuracy

CDM sliced up the digital model and CNC the forms in house

Assembled, sanded, hard coated and primed by &

at 3m from nose to Gills it would have been terrifying in real life where research suggests they grew to between 15 and 19 metres in length.

Painted by , it was a joy to watch Rhett come in every day chest puffed up and take the MEG head on.With a big object like this everyone had an opinion  he stood his ground and produced a colour sample that the Museum approved, and matched supplied artwork.

The teeth in the megalodon model were all recreated from scans of fossilised specimens which we SLA printed

This was incredibly fun to build and the Client studio visits on this were one of our highlights as it allowed us the opportunity to shoehorn Jason Statham into every conversation with WA Museum palaeontologist and curators.

One of the six large models we got to make for Museum Boola Bardip@wamuseum

A 4 meter long SLA print of a Theropod called Megalosauropus Broomensis whose footprints and fossils are found in Western Australia

The pieces were bolted together and the core filled with steelwork and high density foam.

One of the best things about taking on a massive project is being able to share the journey with local creatives who we have known for years.

This model was painted up by James at who carried this and many of the other paintjobs to the end.

I don't think he left the studio for at least 4 months...

Between looking at the state issued artwork, constant inspiration was found pouring over images circa 1993 from The Winston effect.

Congratulations to all the WA Museum and State staff for the grand opening of the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

Designed by Architects HASSELL + OMA

Wonderful Galleries designed by Freeman Ryan Design

Hats off to builder Multiplex Construction
who steered this project from the ground up for over four years and through a challenging final 12 months.

This CDM Studio’s first time working for a top tier builder and the most fun and challenging project the studio has been involved in to date.

Once on the dotted line we had to deliver 100 + models inside 9 months.

To meet the deadline, CDM took a every possible fabrication approach. Ranging from digital and traditional sculpting to 3d printing coupled with traditional modelmaking skills.
