It’s the hardest part of my job. Watching someone’s heart break when I have to hand a tape back and say, "I'm sorry, there's nothing left on here to save."

Right now, sitting in a dusty box in your garage or at the back of a closet, your family’s history is quietly erasing itself.

Magnetic tape was never designed to outlast us. Its absolute maximum lifespan is 15 to 20 years. If your home videos were filmed in the 80s, 90s, or early 2000s, they are already past their expiration date. They are actively decaying.

Every single day, white mold is eating away at the film. Oxidation is destroying the audio. The only remaining footage of family members who have passed away, your wedding day, your kids' first steps—it is all fading to static.

This isn't a problem you can put off until next year. Decay doesn't pause because you're busy. Once the magnetic strip is compromised, no amount of money or advanced technology can bring those memories back. When it's gone, it is gone forever.
