➡️ Retention Time

Wastewater must rest long enough in the tank's quiet conditions to achieve appropriate solids separation.

Retention time refers to the amount of time water spends in the tank between entry and discharge.

A tank is designed to give at least a 24-hour retention time, during which one-half to two-thirds of the tank capacity is taken up by sludge and scum storage, with a lot of accumulated solids in the tank.

A tank should be able to give 2-3 days of retention time with routine maintenance.

The effective volume of the tank steadily decreases as sludge and scum accumulate and take up more space in the tank, resulting in a shorter retention time.

If accumulated solids are not pumped frequently enough, wastewater will not spend enough time in the tank to achieve appropriate separation, and solids will flow out of the tank with the effluent into the drain field.

Clogged drain pipes, one of the most prevalent reasons of septic system failure, might develop as a result of this.

4. CONFIRM THE INFORMATION AND SELECT A CONTRACTOR

Consider all of your options carefully. Choose at least four to six contractors from your prospect list. Invite them to your worksite for a one-on-one discussion.

These meetings are ideal for verifying their license or insurance. Always request proof of insurance.

You should also contact the licensing agency to ensure that their insurance is current. You do not want a contractor's certificate to be rescinded in the middle of a project.

Choose the best contractor on the roster. Note that the contractor with the cheapest bidder is not always the best.

If a contractor's bid is considerably lower, inquire as to why. It might be because the contractor alters orders in the middle of the project, causing the budget to exceed your expectations.
