🌱 Exciting News from Decarbonology! 🌱

We're thrilled to share that we have completed our winter 2024 infill planting for our Wheatbelt Biodiversity Carbon Credit Project in Western Australia. This project continues to increase the biodiversity of the region, to rejuvenate marginal farmland, reduce erosion and provide habitat for WA's precious black cockatoos.

A big thank you to Noongar Land Enterprise Group for providing the seedlings, Workpower for the essential equipment, EMRC - Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council for the inoculated biochar and our dedicated Decarbonology clients and team for their hard work and commitment. Special thanks to Fran Lindel and Tara Graham and their families for contributing.

This initiative is particularly special as it's the first of its kind in Australia, with our carbon credits registered with Verra. Together, we're making a tangible impact on our environment and setting a new standard for sustainability projects in the Australia and investing for our future generations.

Decarbonology Achieves Certification for Australia’s First VERRA ARR Project – The Wheatbelt Biodiversity Carbon Credit Project

Decarbonology is proud to announce the successful certification of its Wheatbelt Biodiversity Carbon Credit (WBCC) project. This extraordinary milestone marks the registration of the first and only Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) project in Australia to receive VERRA certification, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

VERRA's globally recognised ARR projects restore degraded lands and enhance ecosystem services through tree planting and land management activities, generating high-quality, verified carbon credits by sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide using innovative scientific approaches, ultimately contributing to climate change mitigation efforts.

The WBCC project, spanning over 159 hectares, is dedicated to conserving and restoring biodiversity of the Wheatbelt region while sequestering greenhouse gas emissions. By planting a wide variety of native tree species, Decarbonology is rejuvenating cleared and degraded farmland, restoring valuable biodiverse habitats.

The Wheatbelt region was once a diverse ecosystem, reduced when clearing began in the 1890s with the removal of native species for agricultural development. For some areas, the cumulative degradation over many decades requires a change in approach.

The WBCC project generates carbon credits by removing CO2 from the atmosphere, with the amount of carbon sequestered regularly monitored using scientific parameters and methodologies approved by VERRA's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the UNFCCC's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). It is conservatively estimated that the current plantings will sequester approximately up to 123,310 tCO2-e over an 80-year period, with this amount set to increase as new planting areas are added.

As the first ARR project in Australia to receive VERRA certification, Decarbonology's Wheatbelt Biodiversity Carbon Credit project represents a significant step forward in Australia’s efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable land management practices. Carbon credits with VERRA certification are internationally recognised and are suitable for international supply chains.
