Worry is a normal human experience. We all worry from time to time, particularly during periods of uncertainty, change, or stress.
For some people, however, worry becomes persistent, difficult to control, and starts to affect daily life. It may show up as racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, restlessness, irritability, or trouble sleeping.
When excessive worry occurs more days than not for at least six months and is accompanied by physical symptoms, it may meet criteria for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
GAD is quite a common anxiety difficulty, affecting an estimated 1 in 20 adults in any given year*. It is also a presentation our team commonly works with at J&R Clinical Psychology.
The good news is that GAD responds well to evidence-based psychological treatments, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Understanding the difference between everyday worry and problematic worry is often the first step toward making sense of what you're experiencing.

As the days get shorter and the weather cools, many people notice changes in their energy, motivation, and daily routines.
This isn't simply a matter of willpower.
Seasonal changes can influence our sleep patterns, mood, activity levels, and overall sense of motivation. Tasks that felt manageable a few months ago may suddenly require more effort.
If you're finding it harder to stay motivated this winter, it may help to:
• Keep a consistent routine where possible
• Spend time outdoors during daylight hours
• Focus on small, achievable goals
• Be mindful of your sleep and self-care habits
A slower season doesn't mean you're falling behind. Sometimes the season itself plays a role.
If low mood, reduced motivation, or changes in sleep are beginning to impact your wellbeing, professional support may help.
