Did you know that the Yongka (Kangaroo) is Meerilinga Kingsley's totem? ๐Ÿฆ˜

After consultation with local Noongar Elders and reflection as a team, the Yongka was chosen as our centre's totem due to its strong connection to the local area. Kangaroos have long inhabited the bushland surrounding Kingsley and can still be seen in the area today.

In Noongar culture, a totem (Baronga) represents a special spiritual connection and responsibility to care for and respect all living things. We are proud to honour the Yongka and the important cultural knowledge and connection to Country that it represents. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ

Meerilinga Kingsley was proud to co-host Neighbourhood Centre Week at Meerilinga Woodvale last week. It was wonderful to come together with local community members to celebrate and acknowledge the valuable work community centres do in supporting and strengthening our community every day.
