In this universe where there is light, there must be a shadow. Shadow proves the light. The bright the light the dark the shadow is. Shadow is the soul of light.

Some clients come to me after their traditional ideas of what therapy should be has got them as far as it can.
They're looking for something different, something that can help them access and express their emotions in a way that words cannot.
For some, (but definitely not all) art therapy can be the answer they’re seeking.
Art therapy offers a unique opportunity for clients to express themselves in a nonverbal way, which can be especially helpful for those who have difficulty putting their feelings into words.
Through art-making, clients can explore their inner world and bring to the surface that which cannot be easily verbalized. This can help them process their emotions, gain insight into their experiences, and develop a deeper sense of self-awareness.
In addition to its emotional benefits, art therapy also has somatic healing qualities. This means that it can help clients release physical tension and stored emotions in the body.
For example, a client might create a piece of art that represents their anxiety, and as they work on the piece, they might notice that their body begins to relax and release some of the tension they've been holding onto.
If you haven't found the right therapy for yourself yet, I encourage you to keep going. There's always hope.
Sometimes it takes trying different approaches to find what works for you. There’s some deep work out there that might be the missing piece that helps you move forward on your healing journey.

Art therapy can be hard to explain. Perhaps in the same way that traditional talk therapy would have been hard to explain once upon a time.
Then talk therapy became more commonplace and was often shown in movies and documentaries. Initially, though, explaining that you simply speak for an hour in a room with a professional could have seemed odd?
Why can't you solve your problems for yourself?
Why can't you just tell your friends or your family what's happening?
Why do you have to go and see someone?
Most of us know now that much more than talking goes on. We also see talk therapy as less stigmatised and something that's for everyone and anyone who needs some help to process a situation or circumstance.
So it goes with art therapy. As an art therapist, I support individuals experiencing emotional, social, psychological, physical, and/or sensory challenges. It is a hands-on psychotherapy where art-making helps a client's comprehension, communication, and self-expression.
