The annual event raises awareness of refugee experiences and celebrates the strength, courage, and positive contributions of refugees in our communities.

๐ŸšจNationwide Emergency Phone Alert๐Ÿšจ

The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system.

It is an alert that will emit a loud siren-like warning sound for 10 seconds, partnered with vibration, and the screen will flash. This will happen even if a device is on silent or do not disturb.

A nationwide emergency warning test will be sent to compatible mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches, on Monday 27 July.

Additionally, specific locations have been chosen as test sites. Goomalling has been identified as a WA community test location, among others across Australia.

Testing Dates
๐Ÿ“12:00noon (AWST), Monday 27 July - National test
๐Ÿ“12:00noon (AWST), Friday 19 June - Goomalling, WA (among other locations across Australia)

If you have a hidden safety phone as part of your domestic, family and sexual violence safety plan, it's important to prepare.

If you are concerned about receiving the alert, and will be in a test location or within 15 kilometres of one at the time:

๐Ÿ”ดOne hour before the test or alert: turn your safety devices off OR switch them to aeroplane mode (if you have it)
๐Ÿ”ด During and after the test: keep your device off or on aeroplane mode for 24 hours.

You can still use wi-fi if your device is in aeroplane mode.

If you work with people who may be affected, please share the AusAlert posters, resources, social media tiles and fact sheets available here โžก๏ธ https://www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/staying-safe-ausalert
