What does it look like to keep showing up for community? 🙌🏼🙌🏼

At the beginning of June, our nom! Children nutritionists returned to Newman, made possible by the support of Telethon7 Perth and Hancock Iron Ore. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏼

We delivered 4 sessions, connecting with 26 families from Newman and Jigalong communities. We visited community spaces where people already feel connected - Jigalong Youth Centre, Newman Kindilink, The Newman Community Centre and The Y Hub.

This was our third year visiting, and each visit strengthens the relationships we’ve built. This time, we brought our new Good Mirrka recipe flip book, created alongside Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa and Martu people in the Pilbara.

During each session we talked about healthy eating and cooked meals from our recipe books that are tasty, easy and designed to be shared. Because when we cook together, we connect and that’s where real impact begins 💜

During May, our nom! Schools nutritionists packed their bags and headed to Newman, with the support of Mineral Resources and PLS 🤗🤗

Over four action‑packed days, our nom! nutritionists ran eight sessions and reached more than 140 students from Newman Primary School, Newman Senior High School and South Newman Primary School.

This visit was extra special as it marked our third year in a row at these schools. We’re so grateful for the strong relationships we’ve built and the warm welcome we receive each time we return 💜

We also took our newest nom! recipe book on the road, trialling recipes from the new nom! #3 booklet. The verdict? Mexican Mac & Cheese and Breakfast Burritos were definite crowd favourites 🌮🧀

Another highlight was rolling out a brand‑new food science lesson with Year 6 students, exploring how food changes when we cook it and sparking lots of curiosity along the way.

A huge thank you to Mineral Resources and PLS for helping make this visit possible, and to the schools and students for another memorable trip to Newman. 🤗

A cosy classic for cooler days 🍂❄️

With the weather cooling down, it’s the perfect time to reach for comforting favourites. Our Legendary Lasagne is one of those recipes we come back to again and again. It’s hearty, filling and made with simple ingredients that stretch a long way.

Layered with rich flavour and plenty of goodness, this lasagne is ideal for sharing around the table or saving leftovers for busy weeknights. It’s also a great way to turn everyday ingredients into something special, especially when the evenings start to feel a little colder.

What happens when students get hands‑on with food, try new recipes and build real kitchen confidence? 🤔🤔

This term, we saw it firsthand through nom! Schools. 🤩🤩

In Term 1, Foodbank WA delivered 20 nom! Schools sessions to more than 470 students across Perth Metro and Geraldton. We visited seven schools, from primary classrooms to high schools and every session was packed with curiosity, learning and plenty of tasting.

Our facilitators noticed something special. When we returned for a second visit, many students had already cooked recipes from our nom! cookbooks at home. Their skills and confidence had grown. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Teachers told us the impact lasted well beyond the session. “The students had a great time and are still talking about it. It was one of the most engaging incursion experiences we have had.”

A big thank you to Mineral Resources and PLS for supporting nom! Schools and helping us reach students across Western Australia. 💜

So tell us, what’s the first recipe you’d like to see young people learn to cook? 🤗
