In the early hours of September 3, a devastating fire engulfed the Morley Market on Bishop Street, leaving nearly a dozen small, family-owned businesses destroyed. The inferno, which took over 70 firefighters several hours to control, has left a 5,000-square-metre shell where vibrant local enterprises once thrived.

In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied together. Demolition of the damaged site is underway, with efforts expected to continue for several weeks. Meanwhile, local businesses and residents are coming together to support those affected. For instance, Big Don’s Smoked Meats in Bayswater has organized a fundraiser cookout, aiming to raise $100,000 for the impacted small businesses.

While the road to recovery is long, the resilience and unity of our community shine brightly. Let's continue to support our local businesses and stand together in these challenging times.
