Here are three tips to encourage more sleep around naps and bedtime when your child is sick:

✨️ Extend Nap Times:
When your child is unwell, their body needs extra rest to aid in the healing process. Encourage longer naps by creating a calm and comfortable sleep environment. Dim the lights, use white noise, and ensure the room temperature is conducive to sleep. If your child typically takes shorter naps, try gently extending their naptime by 15 minutes increments to allow for more restorative sleep.

✨️Maintain a consistent nap and bedtime routine:
During sickness, it's important to stick to a consistent routine to provide a sense of predictability and stability for your child. Consistency helps regulate their internal body clock and promotes better sleep. This routine can help them feel more secure and settle into sleep more easily.

✨️ Bring Bedtime Earlier:
Illness can leave children feeling more tired and in need of extra sleep. Adjusting their bedtime earlier allows them to get the rest they require to recover. Start the bedtime routine a bit earlier than usual, allowing for additional winding-down time and relaxation.

✨️Night wakings: These are bound to happen and you should respond with comfort and support. Pain, discomfort and genuine hunger can cause more frequent wakings at night.

A consistent bedtime routine is the foundation for a great sleep.  The predictability of a bedtime routine gives your child a sense of security by knowing what step is next and what is expected of them.

It is never too early to introduce a bedtime routine even though it looks completely different for a newborn compared to a toddler,  the fundamental idea is that a familiar pattern brings a sense of relief and comfort.
