Hi everyone,
The HATS WA YouTube page has just launched today! Regardless of your ability or prior knowledge I recommend checking out the first video, as it introduces the topic of algebra in an easy to understand way. The only prerequisites are knowledge of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and times tables.
If you have any students who struggle to expand, factorise, or specifically factorise quadratic trinomials, I hope this helps clarify these processes. For the harder content, I have included a specific technique that I have found students love to use in the past. Hi everyone,
In addition to business posts, I will be aiming to use this page to share maths content such as fun puzzles, problem solving strategies, test and exam techniques, and helpful advice related to common issues students have been facing.
One of the foundational tools that is essential for students at higher levels of mathematics is quick recall of times tables. If your child cannot quickly recall up to their 12 times tables, it may be worth considering sites such as Mathletics for practise.

Mathletics is great as a motivational tool for maths and as practise, however it does have a cost to it. If you are looking to avoid this, you could consider Math Salamanders. This site is free and allows your child to work up from 1-5 times table, 1-6, 1-7, all the way until they know their 1-12 times table.

Once they are more confident, the speed test from TimesTables with all tables selected is a useful tool to consolidate this skill and improve the speed of recall.

Even just 5-10 minutes of practise after school each night can make a huge difference! I hope this was useful information for you that can help your child move from worrying about arithmetic to grappling with more advanced concepts which they are learning in their current year!
