Hismile posted videos on its social media platforms, where apparently random shoppers tried Hismile’s products and expressed their satisfaction with the results.

However, the “random shoppers” in the videos were Hismile employees.

The ACCC fined them $138,600 for alleged false and misleading representations in its social media advertising.

“Misleading social media advertisements can reach millions of consumers and may impact their purchasing decisions. All businesses must ensure they are not making misleading or deceptive claims on social media platforms.” ACCC Commissioner Luke Woodward said.

In addition, Hismile uploaded videos to social media of its Glostik Tooth Gloss product which may have given consumers the impression that the product would remove stains on teeth.

The ACCC alleged that this was misleading, because the product only temporarily concealed stains.

Efforts to save Barbeques Galore have been unsuccessful - it's now closing down. If you have unspent gift cards or paid deposits - you need to read the below:

♨️ The 14 WA stores will begin to close from 16th June.
♨️ Spend gift cards and credit notes by 30 June. For every $1 of gift card credit redeemed, you must spend $2 of your own money. eg to redeem a $50 gift card, you will need to make a purchase of $150, of which $100 of your own money must be paid.
♨️ Customer deposits will be honoured.
♨️ If you have a product that needs repairing or replacing you should contact the manufacturer.
