If there is anyone in the Mount Isa area looking to keep the Celtic culture alive, please reach out and we can put you in contact.
Whether it be Highland Dancing, Irish Dancing, Bagpipes, Tenor, Bass, or Side/Snare drums 🥁.
Practice for Highland Dancing is on Tuesday afternoons.
Band Practice (including learners) is on Tuesday nights.
Irish Dancing is on Saturday afternoons at the Isa Highlanders Hall, 6 Wellington Rd, near Wellington Oval - netball grounds.
🎶🥁 Bagpipes are officially back in town.
In between shifts at the Mount Isa Hospital, first-year medical intern Dr Aaron Gray is working to restart a formal pipe band in the city.
Mount Isa Irish Highlanders made its first public appearance at the Mount Isa Sign On Expo (pictured) and is now calling for more members to help grow the band.
“For me, it’s just a case of getting things active, getting people playing," he said.
He said while some locals have kept things going informally over the years, now felt like the right time to make it official again.
“Things have dwindled over time… but I thought, while I’m here, I might as well get a formal band going and just get the energy back.”
Right now they’re looking for:
🥁 Side drummers
🥁 Tenor drummers
🥁 Bass drum
🎵 Pipers
🎶 And anyone who wants to learn
“All ages, all skill sets… just come along.”
