So you may have noticed I’ve been a little quite the past six months, that’s because my dear old Dad has been very unwell. He went into the Alfred on 5 Jan and finally came home on 20 May. In between those dates he had a night here and there at home but then ended up in hospital. He’s doing much better now but it’s been a huge adjustment for all the family including my once very fit and active 86yr old Dad.
In that time sewing was put aside and only the odd hem was done (as I’m his main carer) but now I think it’s time to pick up some hours behind the machine. We still have fortnightly visits to the hospital vascular podiatrist and cardio specialists but I can now work around those appointments. Having said that I’ve had to reduce my hours to Monday-Thursday 10.30-6.30pm.
You have all been very patient with me but the bags of clothing some of you have been storing in your cars can come out now. A few delights arrived last Thursday that may keep me busy for a while, but I’m up for the challenge!!
And a neighbour who has been wanting a sewing lesson for many months finally achieved what she wanted last week which turned out amazing. Thank you for the delicious cake today.
My wonderful family have been my rock in this journey and I find myself very blessed to have them and my amazing friends in my life.
So for those of you who have alterations, please reach out, I’m back.

I love my job and I love up cycling. The world would be a much cleaner healthier place if we all just looked in our wardrobe and thought ‘how can I wear that to fit me’ instead of throwing the item in a bag destined for the bin or taking it to the op shop. These days if there is a mark on clothes at the op shop they either cut them up for rags or yep they go into a bag headed for landfill.
I’ve been following this company for a few years now called Evrnu in Seattle, America and they finally have a process for using old textiles. Adidas has come onboard and making hoodies from the Nucycl thread which I think is awesome and a great step in the right direction to saving the planet from all the disposable clothing in the world.
Closer to home is Textile Recyclers Australia doing great work in Melbourne and now in Sydney educating the fashion houses and retailers. They also accept clothes, fabric or linen and sort, pack and send to third world countries. Anything left they then start the process of recycling.
If you have any clothes that you’d like repurposed or upcycled let’s have a chat.
