Do you know how much waste goes through supermarkets?

We collect from the big 3 supermarkets every week, rescuing excess produce from being thrown out. This produce is then cooked and served to our friends on the street with dignity and nutrition.

The price of living is high and instead of rotting in bins we get to rescue and pay forward the nourishment.

The amount of waste from supermarkets, even after donation is allocated, exceeds most charities capacity to handle. With appropriate State funding we could run more services in more locations and create more jobs.

At Big Umbrella, we do 2 weekly street services at the Russell St end of Federation Square.

We had a 3rd service on Sydney Rd but received no funding to keep it going. The use of the space has been constructed into a small park.

Big organisations may have their leg up in State funding but small non-for-profits are struggling to feed our communities. ?
