The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Christian Bale will play Frankenstein’s Monster in an upcoming Warner Bros. film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal has assembled a talented cast, including Bale, Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penélope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard.

The film, initially slated for Netflix, shifted to Warner Bros. as reported by Deadline on January 12th. Although plot details were not revealed, Bale expressed enthusiasm for working with Gyllenhaal and his co-stars, hinting at physical transformations required for the role.

The film’s logline follows the creature’s pursuit of love by seeking a bride, with the storyline set in 1930s Chicago and involving the resurrection of a murdered woman to create the Bride character.
