: Why I volunteer ❀️🌟

Meet Lowarna and Aunty Ange from Wrens Netball Club, a proud First Nations-led community club on Gunaikurnai Country in Gippsland.

For them, volunteering is about giving back to community. As volunteer coaches, they help young people build confidence through netball, while creating a space where every child feels welcome.

Their story reflects a tradition of community care that has always been central to First Nations culture. "Here if you need" in every sense! 🏐

"We don't think of it as volunteering at all... that's just what we do."

For five decades, NAIDOC Week has proudly celebrated the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year's theme, , is a tribute to those who built this movement: the Elders, the organisers, the artists, and the communities who keep showing up, year after year.

At Volunteering Victoria, is also a special time to recognise the world's oldest continuing culture and its enduring traditions of caring for community.
