Chris Miran used this exercise at Medibank and it's one of the simplest, most effective tools he's seen for surfacing what's actually getting in the way of good work.
The premise is straightforward: ask your teams to identify the silly things. The bureaucratic friction, pointless processes, and unnecessary steps that get in the way of delivering their best work.
They'll know immediately. Teams always do.
What comes back becomes a list of things you as a leader can actually go and fix. And here's the important part: as an executive or head of P&C, you are almost certainly not aware of most of it. The things grinding people down day to day are largely invisible from the top.
This is one of the very first steps in redesigning work. You donβt have to start with a grand transformation strategy or a restructure. You just need a visual list of the bureaucracy that's quietly costing you.
It costs nothing, takes very little time, and tells you exactly where to start.
