Cleanaway Guiding Stars Awards Finalist and Process Engineer Roberto Amigo Domaniczky saw a bottleneck at our Eastern Creek Organics site and found a better way to run operations. He did not stop at the idea. He trained teams, supported implementation and ensured the solution worked in practice.
The result? Faster processing and smoother operations for our customers with increased FOGO processing rates from 30 to 50 tonnes per hour.
Eastern Creek Organics started off as a Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) site which then transitioned into processing higher loads of Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO). The site eventually reached a milestone of around 50% FOGO processing (approximately 2,500 tonnes per week).
However, this shift to FOGO created operational strain. The “Biomax” technology that processes FOGO operates most efficiently when one waste stream is dominant and the growing volume introduced changeover delays and reduced throughput. The result was a backlog in the receivals hall, increased weekend work and pressure on site operations.
Roberto identified the constraint and developed a new operating procedure. Instead of splitting capacity inefficiently, he enabled the production team to run two Biomax machines on MSW and two on FOGO streams simultaneously.
This lifted FOGO processing rates from 30 to 50 tonnes per hour.
That is what taking ownership looks like.
👏 Great work Roberto. We’re proud to have you on our team.
