Pet Stays

Over the last 10 years, we've looked after a lot of dogs.
Hundreds of them.
We've loved every one of them, because dogs bring something into our lives that is impossible to explain unless you've experienced it. They make us laugh, they comfort us when we're down, they teach us to slow down, and somehow they heal little pieces of our soul without ever saying a word.
Anyone who knows us knows this isn't just a business for Jeannene and I. Dogs have been our world for a very long time. We've built our lives around them. We've shared our home with them. We've celebrated them, cried for them and loved them as if they were our own.
And in all those years, we've learnt something.
Some dogs are dogs.
Some dogs leave paw prints on your heart.
And then, once in a very rare while, you meet a soul that has somehow found its way into the shape of a dog.
That's Garry.
Garry the Griffon is one of those souls.
I don't know how else to explain it.
There's just something about him.
His energy. His spirit. His gentle nature. The way he looks at you. The way he curls up beside you. The way he quietly works his way into your heart without even trying.
He's not the loudest dog we've ever met.
He's not the cheekiest.
He's not the naughtiest.
He's simply Garry.
And somehow that's more than enough.
After what has been a difficult few months for us, Garry became the first dog to walk through the door and begin this new chapter with us. Looking back, I honestly couldn't think of a better dog to start with.
It felt right.
Like the universe knew exactly who we needed.
We're incredibly grateful to Janelle and Brad for trusting us with their beautiful boy and allowing us to be a small part of his life.
Today is Garry’s birthday.
And while he probably has no idea what all the fuss is about, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate a dog who means far more to us than he'll ever know.
Happy Birthday, Garry.
Thank you for your cuddles.
Thank you for your trust.
Thank you for your beautiful soul.
Thank you for reminding us why we do what we do.
You are one of the special ones, mate.
A once in a lifetime dog.
Or perhaps, a once in a lifetime soul.
We love you to bits and hope we get to celebrate many more birthdays with you in the years ahead.
