Record of the day: Squirrel Bait - "S**g Heaven", 2026 pressing. First and only proper album from this Louisville, Kentucky, band that featured future members of Slint, Bastro, King Kong, Breeders, Gastr Del Sol, etc etc. Originally released in 1987, it's a turbo-charged, scuzzy assault that barely catches its breath throughout. I guess Husker Du is a marker, music wise, especially with that guitar sound, but Squirrel Bait have their own edge borne out of being young punks living on the border of the Midwest and the South. Ferocious, but with just enough pop hooks to keep a groove in the mosh pit. First time on vinyl for many years for this influential hardcore album that still gets my leg ticking almost 40 years since hearing it for the first time. - Jeff

Records of the day: Radiohead - "Kid A" (and "Kid A Mnesia"). Released in 2000, "Kid A" marked the time that Radiohead turned the freak level up, even wooing the folks at the avant garde Wire magazine, who put them on the cover, and, somehow, managed to keep their status as (probably) the biggest band in the world at the time. The focus seemed more sound and texture oriented, highlighted by Jonny's new/old Ondes Martenot (pioneering French "synthesizer") the perfect tone partner for Thom's earnest vocalizing, while melodies and hooks took a step back as sheets of crackling, droning sounds pushed to the fore. We currently have three versions for sale: an original Euro 2x10" version for cred, a standard sealed reissue for value and convenience, and the Scarry version of "Kid A Mnesia" from 2021 for maximum beauty. This version pairs "Kid A" with its follow-up album, "Amnesiac", from 2001, a kind of close sibling of "Kid A", pressed on cream coloured vinyl and housed in a gorgeous 36-page card book with artwork from the records. It's a chunky package, too; just look at that second photo with a stack of 10 $2 coins next to it! A good way to fill out a half-empty shelf, for sure. - Jeff

The R&R legal department have informed me that we are contractually obligated to make this record of the day after threats from the band's drummer. (I can't place him exactly but he looks really familiar). Luckily this glorious din is just the ticket to help me stay awake after all those world cup matches with a dozen short, sharp slaps of real-deal Aussie punk rock. It's a total blast! - Joe
