How do you handle quiet or stealth resigning in the workplace?
When an employee disengages from their work or team without formally resigning, this is referred to as silent quitting. Employers may find it difficult to address this scenario since the employee may still be physically present but mentally tuned out.
These are some techniques for dealing with workplace silent resigning:
1. Arrange a one-on-one meeting with the employee to check in and see how they are doing. Make an effort to actively listen and demonstrate empathy for any difficulties they may be experiencing. Encourage them to express their opinions and feelings about their jobs and roles in the organization.
2. Offer feedback: Provide detailed feedback on the employee's performance and ideas for improvement. Be careful you frame the feedback positively and constructively.
3. Establish clear expectations: Ensure that the employee is aware of what is expected of them in terms of performance and productivity. Establish attainable goals and give tools to help them achieve.
4. Acknowledge and reward outstanding work: When an employee accomplishes exceptional work, it is important to recognize and celebrate their accomplishments. Recognition and prizes may be effective motivators, increasing engagement and commitment.
5. Think about flexible work arrangements: If possible, think about offering flexible work arrangements like remote work, flexible hours, or job sharing. Employees may feel more in charge of their job as a result, which may boost their engagement.
I feel it is critical that we promote a pleasant work climate that encourages open communication, cooperation, and mutual respect. Our organization can assist to lessen the possibility of quiet resigning and create a more productive and enjoyable workplace for all of our workers by cultivating a culture of involvement and trust.
