Meet our latest fav on - we've recently had a chat, here's what he has to say...
What inspired you to create music?
I came of age in the golden era of EDM (Avicii Levels sort of time). I’d been in rock bands all the way through my teens and as I went off to uni and started going out clubbing, totally fell in love with this sound that was totally different to anything I’d heard before.
Think of EDM as the gateway drug as a clubber, but then it was artists like Denis Sulta, Dusky, Hot Since 82, that wave of UK Deep/Tech House from the mid 2010s that really opened the door to getting deeper into the scene, starting DJing and wanting to make it what I do. It was the feeling that hearing tunes like that evoked when you were out with your mates, I just wanted to bottle that up.
The final step for me was going out to visit my cousin in Chicago who was a DJ/producer already. Up until that point it had been a couple of failed attempts to learn how to make my own stuff. He showed me the basics with Ableton and that was that.
When you're not making music, what helps you reset or switch off?
It sounds obsessive, but I’ve basically dropped all my other hobbies to focus on music. It’s pretty all consuming…!
That being said, I’m in the gym most days, and make a point of getting out for a long walk every day. I find that being out in nature really helps keep my head screwed on, keeps me feeling relatively at peace! For the same reason, I absolutely love skiing - literally feel so free and present.
Outside of that, it’s spending time with mates and my girlfriend, watching Liverpool and England rugby, and slightly more weirdly, the Outdoor Boys YouTube channel. If you know, you know!
Whats one track (yours or someone else's) that always puts you in the best mood?
Ah that’s easy - it’s a track called Ndisize by Caiiro and Ami Faku. It reminds me of when I lived out in the Canary Islands in Spain and the days were just spent producing, surfing, living outdoors, exploring. Music is always so attached for me to times in my life, and whenever I hear that tune, I’m back out there.
