Meet this family of drifters.

Alex, owner of Savage Industries, is no stranger to tough machinery, but today’s beasts are these beautifully prepared VE Commodore drift utes wrapped by Duane and the team at Norsign Mackay.

What started as a throwaway comment while mucking around on a drift simulator eventually turned into a full family drifting affair, with Greg entering his first drift event at 54 years old.

Alex first got into drifting back in the Proserpine MADD INC days before stepping away from the sport for a while. Around 2020 he returned with an S13 Silvia before building the VE ute as a reliable seat time car for the family.

Both utes are simple but properly set up with MCA suspension, hydro handbrakes and plenty of LS power, proving you don’t need a full competition car to get out there and have fun.

Greg went from sim drifting to linking corners at his very first Matsuri, and now the family has three drift cars between them with Amelia and Saartjie both looking at getting involved in upcoming ladies drift days as well.

The pink Savage Industries ute is shared by Alex and Saartjie, while the silver ute belongs to Greg and Amelia.

It’s genuinely cool seeing drifting become a full family affair, and a reminder that grassroots motorsport is still alive and well in North Queensland.
