Story time. (I know how much you love hearing that from me π€£)
I worked through Christmas and New Year. Why? Because Iβm in that season where Iβm the only person in my business (aka if I stop, the wheels stop turning) and I kinda really love having my own business so it's in my brain 24/7. π
BUT. My only task was to smash out my website redesign before January 13.
When I've been scrolling the past couple of weeks though, I noticed I am *beyond* over the endless 2025 planning and goal-setting posts. I get it - itβs the season for it - but it got a bit much for me. π
So as a result, I just didn't want to plan for this year. lol
(setting myself up for success, yes.)
Then this morning, I opened James Clear's newsletter, found this gem of a quote AND my north star for 2025 sparkling right there:
β¨ Presence.
Last year, I put everything into engaging with other creatives, learning, and setting myself up for a productive 2025.
The thing that full-on nagged at the back of my brain though?
My kids mostly saw me at my desk. Or on my phone. I spent nights and weekends working.
And I wasn't sharing much of myself or my face online.
Deeeeefinitely needs improvement for any hopes of long term happiness. π«
Instead this year, I want all of my focus, goals and plans to centre around being present.
If the kids and Jeff are home, I'm hanging out with them.
I want to be sharing more online through blog posts, email newsletters, and right here on socials.
I did feel quite guilty that my Waffles got the chop last year as I pushed to get everything done by Christmas. But honestly? That comes down to lack of planning my social posts last year and just straight up losing the spark to share anything online. π€·π»ββοΈ
Once my website is live (which *is* on track for the 13th π₯³) my long-missed content strategy planning task kicks off again. For socials, my goalposts are set at 2 feed posts per week and story posts every other day, which feels nice and attainable. πͺπΌ
Soooo yeah. If you read this far, thank you. If you skim read, also thank you.
I'll see you again soon. π

I saw this quote from Jonathan Ive for the first time on Saturday, and it got me thinking.β
β
"It's very easy to be different. But very difficult to be better."β
β
When reading it, my mind immediately thought of how much of the past year I've agonised over what my point of difference is.β
β
(Because being a web designer is a very popular career choice nowadays)β
β
As someone who is well and truly in that 'everyperson' archetype, I think accepting that you're *not* for everyone is a discovery I really wish I'd made sooner. π
β
β
The thing is though, I know what comes up repeatedly in feedback that *are* the points of difference to working with me, and how that makes me a better choice.β
β
But I also understand how and what makes me someone a business *wouldn't* choose for their website project.β
β
I'm just sharing these musings in case you're someone stuck in the endless loop of 'how do I stand out?'.
The kicker is that you've just gotta be yourself.β
β
Isn't it amusing when the corny s**t is actually for real life? ππ€£
