Flood Advice - South East Forecast Districts - Monitor conditions
Tasmania SES has issued a Flood Advice - Monitor conditions for low-lying areas of Hobart, Huonville, Geeveston, Dover, Dodges Ferry and Lauderdale.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a coastal hazard warning for the South East Forecast Districts.
During the next 48 hours low-lying areas are likely to be impacted by:
* Abnormally high tides, which may cause sea and river water to rise above normal high tide levels.
* Very high tides that may impact coastal low-lying roads and properties.
* Roads that may become impassable, leading to temporary isolation.
* Dangerous driving conditions.
Flood waters are a risk to safety. Never walk, play, ride, or drive through flood waters.
What you should do:
If you are in a low-lying area of Hobart, Huonville, Geeveston, Dover, Dodges Ferry, Lauderdale and surrounds SES advises:
* Monitor local conditions and be ready to act quickly if the situation changes.
* Prepare for possible temporary isolation - ensure you have essential supplies.
* If conditions worsen and it’s safe to travel, relocate to family or friends in a safer location, away from flood-prone areas.
* Never drive through flood waters.
* Warn family, friends and neighbours about the risk.

❄️ Planning a Trip to the Snow? Here's What to Expect ❄️
While we aren't expecting snow to very low levels, we are expecting fairly significant snow accumulations across Tasmania's higher alpine regions over the coming days.
If you're planning a trip to the snow, keep in mind that Monday is expected to bring strong to locally damaging winds across higher elevations. Winds should ease during Tuesday, but they'll remain gusty and combined with the cold conditions could produce blizzard conditions and areas of ice, making travel hazardous.
Unless you're well prepared and experienced in alpine conditions, I'd recommend waiting until Wednesday onwards. The weather is expected to become more settled, with plenty of snow still covering the mountains under much more enjoyable and safer conditions.
🚐 Snow access:
- Ben Lomond and kunanyi / Mt Wellington offer snow shuttle services to the summit, and I highly recommend using them.
- Mt Field, the Central Lakes, Lake St Clair, and Cradle Mountain can generally be accessed by car, but during heavy snowfall roads may be restricted to 4WD vehicles, require snow chains, or be closed altogether.
🥾 If you're planning on bushwalking over the coming days, I'd strongly encourage you to reconsider. Alpine and sub-alpine weather can change rapidly, with conditions deteriorating in a matter of minutes.
Always check the latest forecasts and road conditions before travelling, dress appropriately for the cold, and carry the gear you'll need if conditions worsen.
I'll continue to keep you updated over the coming days!
And honestly... I'm even thinking of heading up to kunanyi / Mt Wellington to see the snow myself! ❄️
