Hello Friends!
With fuel prices continuing to rise, more homeowners are starting to consider electric vehicles and how they will charge them at home.
Installing an EV charger is not as simple as mounting a unit on the wall. It is regulated electrical work that must be completed by a licensed electrician to ensure your system is safe, compliant, and suitable for long-term use.
At Mance Electrical, we install EV chargers across Launceston, making sure your home is properly set up for modern energy demands.
Before installation, we assess your electrical system to ensure it can safely support EV charging. This may include checking switchboard capacity, confirming compliance with Australian wiring standards, and determining whether upgrades are required.
Most homes use a single-phase charger (7kW), which is suitable for overnight charging. Homes with three-phase power can support faster charging (up to 22kW), depending on your setup and vehicle.
A properly installed EV charger includes:
• Safe integration with your existing electrical system
• A dedicated circuit for reliable performance
• Compliance with AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules
• Full testing and certification
Once installed, you will receive a Certificate of Electrical Compliance, confirming the system has been installed correctly and meets all required standards.
We can also help you reduce charging costs by setting up your system to charge during off-peak times or integrate with solar, allowing you to make better use of your energy.
Installation costs typically range between $1,200 and $3,800 depending on your property, location of the charger, and whether any upgrades are required.
If you are considering an electric vehicle, or already have one and want a safe and reliable charging solution at home, we would be happy to guide you through your options.

Still have old white ceramic fuses in your switchboard?
These types of fuses are often mounted on asbestos backing panels, which not only poses a health risk but also means your switchboard is outdated and may not meet current safety standards.
Upgrading to a modern switchboard improves safety, ensures compliance, and reduces the risk of electrical faults. If this looks like your current switchboard, it’s a strong sign that it’s time to consider a switchboard upgrade.
Here is a recent switchboard upgrade we completed — a clear comparison that highlights the difference and the quality of our workmanship.
