With bird flu now impacting our coastline, it’s important that we, as fishers, play our part in protecting it.
If you see multiple sick or dead birds or other animals showing signs of illness, do not touch them, instead:
❌ Avoiding contact with the sick animal
📍 Record what you see, including the location and number of the animals affected

🎣 Big news for Esperance land-based fishers!
Land-based fishers in Esperance can look forward to fishing their very own artificial reef within casting distance of the town's jetty by mid-2027! 🙌
Marine engineers Legacy Reefs have been contracted to install 200 purpose-built concrete reef modules around the jetty, creating productive new fish habitat and taking land-based fishing to the next level.
The artificial reef will bring great species within casting distance, such as quality reef fish, Samson fish, and skippy, and create more habitat for popular bread-and-butter species like herring, squid, and flathead.
The project is WA's first large-scale artificial reef specifically designed to improve land-based fishing and is a partnership between Shire of Esperance and Recfishwest.
The much-loved Esperance jetty will continue to make new fishing memories and ensure future generations will be able to enjoy wetting a line for decades to come.

🎣 BIG news for Perth fishers - the iconic Ammo Jetty is set for a huge comeback!
A major step has been taken towards building the brand-new T-head Ammo Jetty at Woodman Point, with construction contracts now awarded for the $17.3 million redevelopment.
This was announced before this weekend's storm damage to the existing jetty - and we hope to see speedy progress made to the construction phase.
For generations of West Aussies, Ammo Jetty has been one of Perth’s most loved land-based fishing spots - producing everything from herring, squid and whiting to salmon and even Spanish mackerel.
The new jetty will deliver safer, better and more accessible fishing, including a substantial new 50m T-head that will more than double fishing space in deeper water.
Recfishwest’s Levi De Boni, who grew up fishing the old Ammo Jetty, said the project means a lot to the community.
“It’s a place that holds a lot of memories for many West Aussies,” Levi said.
“Having more space on the new T-head and better access to deeper water will make a massive difference at one of Perth’s truly iconic fishing locations.”
Great to see this exciting project moving forward for the metro fishing community 🙌 Read more here https://bit.ly/3S0e9AV
The project has been guided by a working group including Recfishwest, Fishability, Transport WA, City of Cockburn, and other agencies.
