//// Sculler’s Head of the Barwon ////
What a fantastic day we enjoyed to wrap up the Rowing Geelong Winter Series. Still and cloudless but with a little fog for atmosphere! Just more evidence that God (or whoever is in charge up there) rows on the Barwon!
70 scullers enjoyed a gentile paddle down one of the more scenic stretches of river to be found in this fine country. Well, gentile for some but pretty willing for others. Our major prize winners are decided by Prognostics (explained below) and those awards went to:
Don Bridges Platter for Best Boats Champion: Peter Antonie
Don Bridges Platter for Tub Boats Champion: Elizbeth Tesarch.
Fantastic performance from our two champions but let’s also rejoice in the other category winners.
Division Boys Girls
Open Ned Joyce Issy Batrouney
Junior Zander Bailey Rio Smith
School James Trott Emma Stevenson
Master Younger Shane O'Connor-Smith Lacinta Rodriquez
Master Middle Peter Antony Christine Camiller
Master Older Jeff Rees Wendy Cotter
Our fastest time of the day, and Senior men’s champion was Ned Joyce with a smoking 17:58. Our fastest lady was Maggie Foley at 19:53, though she races as Senior A so could not quite match Issy’s prognostic as a Senior B.
Special thanks to our volunteers who helped deliver a safe and enjoyable event: Neil Fletcher, Monika Johnson, Ian Farren, Rob Heath, Sandy Locke, Ross Boyd, John Filippou, Alan Chalmers, Paul van Prooyen, Anna Murray and Brian Digby. Special Thanks to the core team, Ian Bridgeland, Kate Fragotta and Andrew Logan.

See you on the water!
Prognostics: Is a measure of your performance against the World Champion in your class of boat. It is expressed as a percentage so 92% means you are travelling at 92% of the speed of the World Chamion. Obviously, if you manage 100%, you probably are the World Champion!

//// Winter Series Race 2 //////
The weather threatened to be very wintery today and I suspect that convinced some people to stay in bed. Kudos to all those who did front up to do battle, even though as it turned out, it wasn’t so bad at all. The rain stayed away, and the sun even shone through for the last heat!
Judging by the results, the conditions certainly suited our Ballarat siblings because Ebony, Paula and Lilia all had heat wins. Richard and Molly also had heat wins which is great and has boosted their points score. They will need a few more wins to catch Xavier who at 26 is our points leader for best boats while Rob Heath leads the Tubs with 21.
It was a fast day and most people saw improvements, including three 5 minute men; Zander at 5:42 Tadhg just 1 second behind him and Xavier a further 9 seconds back. Our fastest lady was Rio with a smoking 6:11 and Richard our fastest tub on 6:13.

Thanks again to our volunteers who braved the conditions and delivered a safe and successful event.
