I got a call from a neighbour, a little panicked, so I went around to see what was bothering him.
After noticing some “mud” on his wine barrel he pulled the b**g out to have a look. You can imagine his horror to find termites had eaten most of the Oak barrels out and made a good start on the Jarrah slab above them. The termites had come up thru the pavers into the barrels less than 3 meters from the house. We gave them a treat and told them to nick off.
The home itself had not been treated since it was built some 11 years ago so we also did a full timber inspection of the home and installed a perimeter treatment using Termidor.
With small increases in temperature and the warmer days to go on longer insects will be more active for longer… So, please check your meter box for a sticker that should have the name of the company, the date and products used, if it was more than five years ago you might want to consider an inspection and / or a treatment to prevent termite attack. This was only a small termite colony, the termites were eating the veranda posts. We told them to nick off before they got into the house and caused major structural damage that could have run into tens of thousands of dollars to repair. We advise regular termite / timber pest inspections.
