Izway Wines 2020 Harold Shiraz - A Beautiful Behemoth...
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
This is such a wonderfully huge wine in all the right ways. Visually, impenatrably black in hue. On the tongue, the breadth and power of the wine is the first thing that strikes you - the spicy, spicy, summer spicy fruit effortly carries the layers of rich oak as the wine seamlessly glides along the palate. Dashes of pepper and liquorice along the way with subtle vanilla bean at the edges of the frame. In all, a big glowing sun of a wine, made so special by its integration - no protrusions - just smooth deliciousness. We love it. This is just about as good as Barossa/Eden Valley gets.

Tellurian Wines Heathcote - Making of a Heathcote Icon
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Over the last decade or so, a small handful of Heathcote wineries have made rather substantial investments (of time, labour, and risk in addition to money) in building up and breathing new life into this legendary region - making it more attractive and accessible for the modern zeitgeist. Investments for which the rest of us might be thankful :) Few (if any) have done more than Tellurian Wines.
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Tellurian started in the Heathcote region nearly 25 years ago (2002), around the beginning of what we think of as Heathcote's modern wine renaissance. Over the ensuing years, Tellurian gradually built a titan - a world class vineyard, a winemaking facility, a beautiful customer-facing venue, and also a brand. Today Tellurian boasts one of the most beautiful and attractive cellar doors in Central Victoria, wherein guests can try a variety of wines from their extensive (and beautiful vineyards) - from Rhone Whites to Italian reds to a smattering of things in between, and, of course, Shiraz and its variants. These wines are made onsite by a passionate, close-knit and long-serving team. It is all extraordinary to see (and to taste). What commitment!
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Of course, we only write about wineries whose wines we love, and the wines, above all else, constitute the reason we believe Tellurian qualifies as a Heathcote "Icon". It is a bold thing to write in words, but said plainly, we believe Tellurian flat out sets the benchmark for Heathcote white wines and should not be overlooked for its reds either. It has been said that "the best wines are made in the vineyard" - and never has this ethos shone more truly than it does in Tellurian's wines. Tellurian is famous for clean, unencumbered wines defined by glowingly beautiful expressions of the underlying fruit, always ripened to an exact perfection. It's a real point of difference in a region known for heavy (and often heavily oaked) reds. But Tellurian's point of difference transcends the region. This place is making some of the prettiest wines in the country. These are world class wines worthy of notice by winelovers anywhere.

Do you know just how electric and invigorating a Fiano can be? Or how beguilingly rich and seductive a Marsanne can be? Have you ever truly heard a Shiraz sing its spicy summer song? You will here....

We salute Tellurian and thank them for their many contributions to one of Australia's greatest wine regions. We are grateful that such families and teams - such passion - still exist. There is powerful magic in the best wines - magic to bring people together and stir wonder.
